Easter is Sunday, March 28, 2027, early in the spring. Good Friday is March 26, and Asheville City Schools are on spring break the whole week before. The city’s 2027 egg hunts are not announced yet, so this page shows what Asheville Parks and Recreation held around Easter 2026, with each date marked by year. New dates go up here as the city posts them, usually in late February.

Asheville Parks and Recreation runs a week of egg hunts each spring, with separate hunts for toddlers, families, dogs and adults 50 and over. The 2027 schedule is not out yet. The city’s 2026 roundup listed these hunts around Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026:

The Glow in the Park details are from the city’s Rec ‘n’ Roll spring 2026 schedule, which asked hunters to bring a flashlight and a basket. Each hunt needed advance registration through the city’s online system. Spring at Biltmore
Spring at Biltmore runs March 25 to May 20, 2027, so Easter weekend falls in its first days, according to Biltmore. The season brings tulips and daffodils, then azaleas and wisteria, to the estate’s gardens and floral displays to Biltmore House. Biltmore publishes a bloom report on the same page. Admission is by daytime ticket from the estate, 1 Lodge St.

Asheville’s churches publish Holy Week and Easter Sunday service times on their own websites and bulletins in March. Check your congregation’s site for sunrise services and extra Easter Sunday services.
What is open and closed
The City of Asheville treats Good Friday as a holiday. In its notice for Good Friday 2026, the city said:
- City offices closed on Good Friday.
- Trash and recycling were not affected, because pickup runs Monday through Thursday. The city’s 2026 holiday schedule also kept Easter Monday on the regular schedule.
- ART buses ran the holiday schedule, which is the same as the Sunday schedule (ART: 828-253-5691).
- Community center buildings closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday; playgrounds, courts and picnic areas next to them stayed open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Parks and greenways stayed open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Aston Park Tennis Center, the Asheville Municipal Golf Course and the WNC Nature Center stayed open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
- Police, fire and 911 worked normal 24-hour schedules. Water emergencies: 828-251-1122.
