Generators and safety
From Duke Energy:
- Run a generator outside, and plug appliances straight into it.
- Never wire a generator into your breaker or fuse box. It can send power back up the lines toward crews working to restore service.
- If you leave home during an outage, turn off appliances that were on, or turn off the main breaker.
- If you are unsure about your home’s wiring, call a licensed electrician.
The city’s winter storm guidance adds that generators should run outside in a well-ventilated area.
Street lights
