Asheville has two public school districts. Asheville City Schools runs eight schools from its office at 85 Mountain St.; its main number is 828-350-7000 and its Enrollment Office is 828-350-6111. Buncombe County Schools, at 175 Bingham Road, 828-232-4160, serves the rest of the city and the county.

Zones do not follow the city limits. By our measurement of Buncombe County’s school district map against the Census Bureau’s city boundary, the city district covers about 37% of Asheville’s land area. The rest is zoned for county schools: about 22.5% of the city for A.C. Reynolds High, 19.5% for T.C. Roberson High, 12% for Enka High and 8% for Erwin High. Inside the city district there are no school zones at all: families choose a school at every grade level, according to the district’s enrollment office.
