10 bakeries, bagel shops and doughnut makers inside Asheville city limits: downtown, Charlotte Street, Haywood Road, Merrimon Avenue and South Asheville.

Last checked Oct. 12, 2026. Refreshed every three months.

Asheville’s bakeries sit in two main pockets. Downtown and the edge of North Asheville have City Bakery and OWL Bakery’s North Asheville shop on Charlotte Street, Old Europe on Broadway and Mother in the South Slope. Haywood Road in West Asheville has OWL’s original bakery, the West End and Hole Doughnuts. Bagels come from Merrimon Avenue and Regent Park.

How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Asheville’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 12, 2026. We added OWL Bakery’s second shop from its own site. We left out Whisk, whose site gives a Candler address; Well-Bred Bakery, whose site lists only Weaverville locations; Baked Pie Company on Long Shoals Road; a Geraldine’s whose web address now belongs to an Idaho bakery; and chains whose location pages would not load for us (Panera Bread, Nothing Bundt Cakes). The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places? Write to us to correct your entry.
